Why do creationists seem to think that a physical law is something that all reality has to obey?

I don't have to obey traffic laws when sitting at this computer...:-) Certain laws apply in certain contexts. And maybe even, at certain times. It used to be thought that the rates of radioactive decay were fixed and constant. Now they aren't sure. It turns out that the amount of sunshine falling might change even C-14 dating times.
