Has anyone noticed how young workers are today, walking around downtowns, hopping on buses?

I'm starting to believe that the recession has only hit those in their middle ages. I hear about how men and women laid off from their jobs years ago can't even get interviews because based on their experience level they are judged to be too old. Is this the case?
